Acceptable use policy
Clean numbers get their messages delivered, keep a trusted caller ID and are not cut off by carriers. These rules protect every customer, the people they talk to, and the numbers themselves.
1. What Numonym is for
Private and business communication: calling and texting the people you deal with, receiving verification codes for your own accounts, keeping a separate number for work, travel or privacy, and running a support or sales line for your business.
2. What is not allowed
- Spam and bulk messaging — unsolicited texts or calls, marketing blasts, and any automated or application-to-person (A2P) campaign.
- Caller-ID spoofing — presenting a number you do not own or have not verified.
- Fraud and phishing — scams, impersonation of people or organizations, fake support lines, and links designed to steal credentials or money.
- Harassment — threats, stalking, intimidation or repeated unwanted contact.
- Illegal content and activity — including any content that exploits minors, which is never tolerated.
- Premium-rate abuse — artificially generating calls or texts to premium-rate or revenue-sharing numbers.
- Attacks on the network — probing, overloading or trying to bypass the limits and protections of Numonym or of the carriers we work with.
3. Texting rules
- Outgoing texts are for conversations between people. You can reply to anyone who writes to you and write to new contacts within the limits shown in your account.
- Sending limits start low on new accounts and grow as an account ages and is used normally.
- Links known to be used for phishing are blocked.
- Alphanumeric sender names are not available: your texts always show your number.
- In the United States, carrier rules restrict unregistered automated texting, so US numbers are for person-to-person conversations only.
4. Calling rules
- The caller ID you present must be one of your Numonym numbers or an external number you have verified with a code.
- Premium-rate and high-risk destinations are blocked by default, and spending caps apply to every account.
- Automated calls to people who have not asked for them (robocalls) are not allowed.
5. Other services
When you register your number with other services, you must also follow their rules. Using Numonym numbers to mass-create accounts, evade bans or defraud other platforms is not allowed.
6. How we enforce these rules
- Depending on what happened, we may warn you, limit a feature — outgoing texts, for example — suspend a number or close an account.
- We always tell you why, and you can appeal through a support ticket.
- If we close an account, the remaining balance is refunded, except where the law requires us to withhold proceeds of fraud.
- Serious illegal activity leads to immediate closure.
7. Reporting abuse
If you receive spam, a scam or harassment from a Numonym number, report it on our abuse report page. Include the number, the date and time and what happened — paste the text of the message if you can. You do not need an account, and we do not ask for your personal details. We don’t reply to reports, but every report is reviewed.
