Terms of service
These terms explain what Numonym provides, what you can expect from us and what we expect from you when you rent a phone number or use our phone system. They are written in plain English on purpose: if anything is unclear, the help center answers most questions before you order.
1. The service
Numonym rents phone numbers — mobile numbers, and local and national numbers — in the countries listed on our website, together with the tools to use them: a phone in your browser, connection details for SIP apps, forwarding of texts and voicemail, and an optional business phone system with call flows and unlimited extensions.
Before you pay, each number shows its line type, what it can do (calls and texts in and out, short codes), whether your number is displayed when you call from abroad, and whether it can be ported out. We only promise what is shown on the number card.
2. Your account
You create your account on our website with a password and a short automated anti-bot check — nothing else. It is identified by a random 16-digit account number. We never ask for your name, identity documents or phone number — not at sign-up, not after payment, not later.
- You sign in with your account number and your password. You can add passkeys, including hardware security keys, and two-step verification with an authenticator app (TOTP).
- You can add an email address if you want notifications by email. It is optional and can be removed at any time.
- Keep your account number, your password and your sign-in methods safe. Because we hold no identity information and no email address, we cannot reset a password or recover an account for which the sign-in methods have been lost. We strongly recommend adding a passkey.
You are responsible for everything done with your account and your numbers.
3. Renting a number
- Numbers are rented for 1, 3, 12 or 24 months. The 3, 12 and 24-month periods are discounted by 10%, 20% and 30% respectively, as shown on our pricing page.
- Each new number also costs a one-time activation fee of $15, whatever the country or type. Numbers with memorable digits in our stock are sold as Premium or Gold numbers for a one-time category fee (currently $29 and $99), shown on the number before you pay. These one-time fees are not charged again when you renew, when you move to a longer rental period or when we swap a number under the 72-hour guarantee.
- The price of a number is locked for as long as you keep renewing it. A renewal costs the rental only.
- Numbers are paid from your balance. We only sell numbers we have in stock, and the number you choose becomes active as soon as it is paid. While a top-up confirms, it is reserved for you for one hour. If it is taken after that hour, a Standard number is replaced by another Standard number of the same selection with at least the same capabilities; if there is none, or for a Premium or Gold number, the order is cancelled and nothing is charged.
- Incoming calls and texts, voicemail with transcription, and forwarding to Telegram, email or a webhook are included in the price of the number. Outgoing calls, outgoing texts, call forwarding to another phone and other optional services are paid from your balance, at the rates shown before each use.
4. Payments and balance
Prices are set in US dollars. You pay by topping up your balance in cryptocurrency: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Monero (XMR), Tether USDT on TRON (TRC-20) or Solana (SOL). No other coin or network is accepted. The details are on our payments page.
- Top-ups start at $30. Each top-up has its own deposit address, and the coin amount is locked for 30 minutes (45 minutes for Bitcoin and Monero).
- Top-ups are processed by a crypto payment processor, which generates the deposit address and watches the blockchain. Your balance is credited once the payment is confirmed.
- If less than the amount due arrives, you can send the rest to the same address while the payment is open. Remaining differences, overpayments and payments that arrive after the address stops being watched are settled through “Report a problem” on the payment, in your account.
- Top-ups of $100 or more receive a bonus: +10% from $100, +15% from $200, +20% from $300, +30% from $500, +40% from $750 and +50% from $1,000. Bonus credit is used before the money you paid in, and it cannot be withdrawn or refunded.
- Your balance never expires.
- You can ask for your balance to be refunded at any time, as described in our refund policy.
5. Renewal, grace period and release
- We remind you from 14 days before a number’s renewal date, on the notification channels you have set up.
- Automatic renewal from your balance is optional and can be switched on or off for each number.
- If a number is not renewed on time, a 7-day grace period starts: incoming calls and texts keep arriving, and only outgoing calls and texts are paused.
- After the grace period, the number stays reserved for you until day 30 after the renewal date. You can renew it at the normal price, with no reactivation fee.
- After day 30, the number is released and placed in quarantine before it can be assigned to anyone else.
More about how we protect your numbers is on our continuity page.
6. Our guarantees
- 72-hour swap. If a number does not work for the purpose you bought it for, tell us within 72 hours of activation and we replace it free of charge with an equivalent number, without a new activation fee. One swap is included per order. If no working replacement is available, that order is refunded in full, activation and any category fee included.
- Carrier withdrawal. If an upstream carrier withdraws a number, we replace it with an equivalent number, without a new activation fee, and credit the unused rental time to your balance.
- Price lock. The price of a number does not change for as long as you keep renewing it.
- No direct recycling. A released number goes through a quarantine period before it can be assigned to anyone else.
7. Transfers and porting
- You can transfer a number to another Numonym account. Transfers require your PIN and your two-factor authentication, and must be accepted by the receiving account.
- Where the country and the carrier allow it, you can port a number out to another provider. Whether a number is portable is stated on its card before purchase. You generate the port-out PIN yourself; we never generate it for you.
- Our support team cannot transfer or port a number on anyone’s behalf. This protects you against SIM-swap and social-engineering attacks.
8. Acceptable use
You agree to use Numonym lawfully and in line with our acceptable use policy. In short: outgoing texts are for conversations between people, and spam, bulk or automated campaigns, caller-ID spoofing, fraud, phishing, harassment, illegal content and premium-rate abuse are forbidden. The caller ID you present must be a number you own or have verified.
9. Calls, texts and emergency services
- Some countries hide or block their numbers when a call is placed from a network abroad. Each number card tells you whether your number will be displayed.
- Delivery of texts and verification codes depends on the sender and on the networks involved. We state each number’s capabilities honestly, and the 72-hour swap covers numbers that do not work for your purpose.
- Premium-rate and high-risk destinations are blocked by default, and spending caps apply.
- Emergency calls are not guaranteed. Calls to emergency services over internet phone numbers may not connect, may not reach the right emergency center and may not transmit your location. Keep a regular phone line for emergencies.
10. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep the service available at all times, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service: maintenance, upstream carriers and network incidents can affect calls and texts. We may add, change or retire features. When a change materially reduces what you have paid for, we tell you in advance and credit the affected unused time to your balance.
11. Suspension and closing your account
- If you break these terms or the acceptable use policy, we may limit a feature, suspend a number or close an account. We always tell you the reason, and you can appeal through a support ticket.
- When we close an account, the remaining balance is refunded, except where the law requires us to withhold proceeds of fraud.
- You can close your account at any time from your security settings. Ask for your balance first: closing the account deletes it, and it can’t be paid out afterwards. Your numbers are then released as described in section 5, and your data is deleted as described in our privacy policy.
12. Liability
The service is provided as it is, with the capabilities stated on each number. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of access to third-party accounts registered with a number, lost profits or lost data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the affected service during the three months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits a liability that cannot be limited by law.
13. Changes to these terms
The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page. We announce significant changes in your account before they take effect. Changes never apply retroactively to rental periods you have already paid for.
14. Support
We don’t provide support by email or by phone, and we don’t publish an email address. Answers to common questions are in our help center. Customers with an active number open support tickets from their account; any account can report a problem with a payment or request a refund of its balance from Billing. How support works is explained on our support page.
