Why a US number, and which kind

A +1 number is the passport of the internet: most apps, marketplaces and exchanges launched in the United States accept it first, and US customers answer a familiar area code far more readily than a foreign one. With Numonym you rent one without handing over a passport, a Social Security number or even an email address.

Choose the kind of number for the job. Mobile numbers are issued on a carrier’s mobile ranges, which matters because many US services look up the line type before they send a verification code and turn VoIP numbers away. Local numbers cost less and give a business — or anyone who mainly talks with people — a New York, Miami or Chicago area code that callers recognize.

Every number works in your browser, in any SIP app and with forwarding to Telegram, email or a webhook, so you can keep a US line while living anywhere. Pay with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Monero, USDT or Solana, keep the number for up to 24 months at a locked price, and renew whenever you like — it is never recycled while it is yours.

  • Carrier mobile ranges

Mobile numbers come from carrier mobile ranges — the line type many US apps and banks check for before sending a code.

  • Every major area code

  • Two-way calls and texts

Good to know

  • Texting rules in the USUS carriers only deliver outgoing texts that are genuine person-to-person conversations. Bulk, automated and marketing texts require 10DLC registration and are not supported on Numonym numbers.
  • Overlay area codesBig cities have several area codes on the same map — New York 212, 646, 332 and 917, Houston 713, 832, 281 and 346. Callers treat them all as local numbers.
  • Emergency callsInternet phone numbers cannot guarantee a connection to 911 or pass on your location. Keep a regular phone line for emergencies.

Questions

Questions about US phone numbers

All questions & answers

Can I get a US number without a US address or SSN?

Yes. We never ask for an address, a Social Security number, an ID or an email. Your account is a random 16-digit account number, and you pay in crypto. The number stays yours for as long as you keep renewing it.

Will a US mobile number work for app verification codes?

Our mobile numbers come from carrier mobile ranges, so they pass the line-type checks many US apps and banks run before sending a code. No service accepts every number, which is why each number shows what it supports before you pay — and why you can swap it for free within 72 hours.

Can I send text messages to US contacts?

Yes, for normal conversations between people. US carriers filter automated and bulk traffic, so marketing campaigns, mass one-time-password sending and similar A2P messaging are not supported. Replying to anyone who texts you first always works.

Should I pick a mobile or a local US number?

Pick a mobile number for verification codes, messaging apps and 2FA: it comes from a carrier mobile range. Pick a local number when people call you — customers, buyers, clients: it carries a city area code such as 212 or 305, costs less and can ring a whole team through the phone system.

Can people outside the US call my number?

Yes. From abroad they dial +1 followed by the 10-digit number, for example +1 305 555 0142. Inside the United States and Canada, callers simply dial the 10 digits, with no international prefix at all. Incoming calls ring in your browser, in your SIP app or on another phone through forwarding.
