Getting started8 answers
What is Numonym?
Numonym rents phone numbers in 12 countries — mobile numbers on real carrier ranges, and local or national numbers for lines people call — paid in cryptocurrency and without any identity check. You can call and text from your browser, forward messages to Telegram or email, connect any SIP app, or run a full business phone system with call menus and unlimited extensions. Your account is a random 16-digit number instead of an email address, and every number shows what it can and cannot do before you pay.
Is Numonym legit and safe to use?
You can check everything before you commit: every price is plain text on the site, your balance never expires and can be refunded (minus the network fee; bonus credit excepted), a number that doesn’t work for its purpose is swapped or refunded within 72 hours, and the site has no trackers. Start with the minimum top-up of $30, try one number, and only then top up more.
How quickly will my number work?
Instantly. Every number we sell is in stock: you pick it digit by digit, and it is live the moment you pay from your balance. If you top up first, the number is held for you for an hour and goes live as soon as the payment is credited. When nothing is in stock for a country, city or type, the order page says so and shows what is ready now — we never take payment for a number we don’t have.
What do I need to get started?
An account and a crypto wallet or exchange account to pay from. Creating the account takes ten seconds: no email, no phone number and no document — just a password and a quick anti-bot check. You receive a random 16-digit account number to save, and we suggest adding a passkey or an authenticator app straight away.
Should I choose a mobile or a local & national number?
Pick a mobile number if you need verification codes from apps, exchanges or banks: it is a real carrier mobile line, accepted by far more services than VoIP numbers. Pick a local or national number for a line people call — customers, clients, buyers — at a lower price: a city area code, or a nationwide number where the country has them. Texts on those depend on the number. Every number lists its line type and capabilities before you buy.
How long can I keep a number?
As long as you like. Numbers are rented for 1, 3 or 12 months, or 24 months with the vault plan, with discounts of 10%, 20% and 30% on the longer periods. The price you pay is locked for as long as you keep renewing the number, and a renewal costs the rental only. Numbers that protect important accounts are best kept on a long period with automatic renewal switched on.
Can I check that a number works before I rely on it?
Yes. Every order is covered by the 72-hour swap guarantee: if the number does not work for what you bought it for — for example, a service refuses it for verification codes — we replace it free of charge within 72 hours. Try it with the services you care about as soon as it is live, and open a ticket from your account if anything fails.
My country is not listed. Can I request it?
Yes. Tell us which country and which kind of number you need — mobile or local & national — using the request form on the numbers page. Requests are counted and help us decide which ranges to open next, and new countries are added regularly. When the country you need opens, you can rent a number there with the same account.
Numbers & compatibility8 answers
Will my number receive verification codes?
It depends on the service and on the line type, which is why each number shows it before you pay. Mobile numbers are real carrier lines, accepted by most apps, messengers and exchanges. Local and national numbers are voice-first and rarely suit sign-up codes by text, but codes delivered by voice call reach them and are caught by voicemail transcription. If a number does not work for your purpose, the 72-hour swap guarantee applies.
How can I tell whether a number is mobile or VoIP?
We never hide it. Every number card states the real line type — carrier mobile range, city range or national range — together with its capabilities: calls in and out, texts in and out, and whether it can receive short codes from services. It also tells you whether people abroad will see your number when you call them, and whether it can be ported out later.
Can I choose my exact number?
Yes, among the numbers in stock: you choose the country, mobile or local & national, and the city, then pick the digits you like: search for digits a number contains, starts or ends with, and filter Standard, Premium or Gold numbers. If you need to top up first, the number is reserved for you for an hour while the payment confirms. What you pick is exactly what you get, live the moment you pay.
What are Premium and Gold numbers?
Numbers from our stock with memorable digits. Premium numbers (+$29 once) have four identical digits in a row, three at the end, a run like 1234, or a pattern like 1212 or 1221. Gold numbers (+$99 once) are rarer: six identical digits or five at the end, a straight run of six, a repeated block like 123123 or a round pattern like 400500. The category comes from the digits when a number joins our stock, and each number shows why it qualifies before you pick it. Standard numbers cost nothing extra, and the fee is paid once: renewals cost the normal rental.
Could my number have belonged to someone else?
Numbers come from carriers’ pools, so a number may have been used in the past, but we never hand a freshly released number straight to a new customer: every number released on Numonym first goes through a quarantine period. Your own number is protected the same way — if you stop renewing, it stays reserved for you until day 30, then enters quarantine instead of being reassigned.
What happens when my rental period ends?
You get reminders from 14 days before, each with a payment link, and you can let the number renew automatically from your balance. If it is not renewed, a 7-day grace period starts: everything still arrives and only outgoing calls and texts pause. The number then stays reserved for you until day 30, renewable at the normal price with no reactivation fee. After that, it is released into quarantine.
What happens if a carrier withdraws my number?
If an upstream carrier ever withdraws a number, we switch you to an equivalent number in the same country and credit the unused rental time to your balance. You are alerted immediately on every notification channel you have set up, so you can update the accounts that use the old number — especially the ones protected by two-factor authentication.
Can I move my number to another provider?
Where the country and the carrier allow it, yes. Whether a number can be ported out is written on its card before you buy, so there are no surprises later. Port-outs and transfers to another Numonym account are protected by your PIN and your two-factor authentication: only you can start them, and our support team cannot move a number on anyone’s behalf.
Payments & billing8 answers
Which cryptocurrencies do you accept?
Five: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Monero (XMR), Tether USDT on TRON (TRC-20) and Solana (SOL). For most amounts, Solana and USDT on TRON cost the least in network fees. Each top-up gets its own deposit address, so there is never a memo or a tag to remember. Payments in other coins, or on other networks, don’t reach your account.
Why are prices shown in US dollars?
So that you never have to do exchange-rate maths. Every price is set in dollars and converted into the coin you choose when you create the payment; the coin amount is then locked for 30 minutes, or 45 for Bitcoin and Monero. The address keeps being watched for a couple of hours after that, so a slow payment is still processed.
Why is there an activation fee?
Setting up a number has a one-off cost: reserving it with the operator, provisioning the line and routing it to your account. So each new number costs $15 once, whatever the country or type, on top of the rental. It is not charged again when you renew, when you switch to a longer period or when we swap a number under the 72-hour guarantee, and it is refunded in full if the number doesn’t work for what you bought it for and no replacement exists.
Can I pay directly from an exchange?
Yes. Exchanges usually deduct their withdrawal fee from the amount you type, which is the most common cause of short payments. The amount on the payment page is what must arrive: raise the amount in your exchange until its “you will receive” line matches it, and withdraw on exactly the network shown — for USDT, that is TRON (TRC-20).
What if I send too much or too little?
Nothing is lost. If less arrives, the payment page shows what was received and what is missing: send the rest to the same address while the payment is open. If it closes short, or if you sent more than needed, use “Report a problem” on that payment in your account, with the transaction ID — once checked, what arrived is added to your balance.
I sent funds on the wrong network or token. What now?
Use “Report a problem” on that payment in your account, with the transaction ID. When it is technically possible to recover the funds, we guide you through the recovery step by step. Recovery can involve network or handling fees and some mistakes cannot be reversed, which is why the payment page always shows the exact network to use.
Is there a bonus when I top up my balance?
Yes, from $100: +10% at $100, +15% at $200, +20% at $300, +30% at $500, +40% at $750 and +50% from $1,000, added to your balance the moment the payment confirms. Top-ups start at $30. The bonus pays for renewals, calls, texts and forwarding like the rest of your balance, but it is not refundable.
Can I get my balance refunded?
Yes. Your balance never expires, and you can ask for it back at any time with “Request a refund” in Billing: we send it in cryptocurrency to the address you give, and you only pay the network fee. Bonus credit is not paid out. Rental periods that have already started are not refunded, except under the 72-hour swap guarantee when no working replacement exists, or when a carrier withdraws a number. A refund under the 72-hour guarantee covers everything, activation included. The refund policy has all the details.
Account & security7 answers
What is my account number?
It is your identity on Numonym: a random 16-digit number, shown in full when your account is created, in four groups of four digits. It replaces the email address other services ask for. Save it somewhere safe — copy it, download it as a text file or print it. Once you are signed in, it is always shown in your security settings.
Which sign-in methods can I use?
Your account number and password, plus what you add: passkeys — including hardware security keys such as a YubiKey — for a one-tap sign-in without typing anything, and two-step verification with an authenticator app (TOTP). We recommend a passkey and two-step verification: together, they make phishing and password guessing useless, and the passkey still lets you in if you lose the phone with your authenticator app.
I lost my account number or my password. Can I still get in?
With a passkey, yes: it signs you in without your account number, which is then shown in your security settings, and you can set a new password there after confirming with the same passkey. Without a passkey, you need both your account number and your password. We hold no email, name or document to check who you are, so nobody — not even our support team — can reset access on your behalf.
Do I ever have to give an email address?
No. An email address is never required, not even to recover your account. You can add one if you want notifications by email — renewal reminders, voicemail or forwarded texts, optionally encrypted with your PGP key — and remove it whenever you like. Telegram, XMPP, Matrix and webhooks are available if you prefer not to use email at all.
How do I contact support?
Support tickets are part of your account: once a number is active on it, open Support and create a ticket — our answers appear in the same place, with a badge when we reply. We have no email address and no phone line. Before you buy, the help center and the guides answer most questions, and any account can use “Report a problem” on a top-up or “Request a refund” in Billing.
How is my number protected against SIM-swap attacks?
Transferring a number to another account or porting it out requires both your PIN and your two-factor authentication — only you can start it. Our support team has no procedure to move a number on anyone’s behalf, so an attacker who tries to talk support into it gets nowhere. Other sensitive actions, such as changing forwarding or sign-in methods, also require a strong confirmation.
What should I do if I think my account is compromised?
Sign in with a method you still control, sign out every other session, remove any sign-in method you do not recognize and review your forwarding destinations. Because moving a number requires your PIN and two-factor authentication, an intruder cannot take your numbers away without them. Keep at least two sign-in methods up to date: nobody, not even our support team, can hand an account over.
Calls & texts7 answers
Where do incoming calls ring?
Wherever you choose, number by number: in your browser, in any SIP app on your phone set up with a QR code, or forwarded to another phone number, which is billed per minute from your balance. Unanswered calls go to voicemail, which is transcribed and can be sent to Telegram, email or a webhook. By default, your browser and your SIP apps ring for 20 seconds before voicemail answers.
Can I send text messages?
Yes, from numbers whose card shows “texts out”. Outgoing texts are meant for conversations between people: replying to anyone who writes to you, and writing to new contacts within the limits shown in your account. Bulk campaigns and automated messaging are not allowed. In the United States, carrier rules restrict unregistered automated texting, so US numbers are for person-to-person conversations only.
How much do outgoing calls and texts cost?
Outgoing calls and texts are pay-as-you-go from your balance, and the price always appears before you commit: the per-minute rate and the local time at the destination show on the dialer, and the cost of a text shows next to the send button. Incoming calls and texts are included in the price of the number. Premium-rate and high-risk destinations are blocked by default.
Will people see my number when I call them?
Usually, yes. Some countries hide or block calls that present one of their numbers from a network abroad — this is the case for many UK, French, German and Spanish numbers. Each number card tells you before you buy whether your number will be shown to the people you call, and the dialer suggests calling with a number from the destination country when you have one.
Is voicemail included?
Yes, with every number at no extra cost. Record your greeting in the browser, upload an audio file or let text-to-speech read it in the number’s language. Messages are transcribed automatically — including verification codes read aloud by automated calls — and can be forwarded as text and audio to Telegram, email or a webhook. You can also keep only the transcription and delete the audio.
Can I receive my texts in Telegram or by email?
Yes. Texts and voicemail can be forwarded to Telegram, to email (optionally encrypted with your PGP key), to XMPP or Matrix, or to your own system through a signed webhook. Keep in mind that the service you forward to can read what passes through it — Telegram or your email provider, for example. We remind you of this before you switch forwarding on.
Can I call emergency services?
Emergency calls over internet phone numbers are not guaranteed: they may not connect, may not reach the right emergency center and may not transmit your location. Please keep a regular mobile or landline for emergencies. This limitation applies to every Numonym number, and you acknowledge it when you place your first order.
Privacy6 answers
What do you store about me?
As little as the service allows. Your account is a random number plus the sign-in methods you add; we keep the numbers you rent and your payment history to renew them on time, billing records of outgoing calls and texts for 12 months, and your message history only for as long as you choose. We never ask for your name, documents or phone number. The full list is on the “What we store” page.
How long are my texts and voicemails kept?
You decide, number by number: not at all (messages are only forwarded), 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or until you delete them. The setting applies from the moment you change it, and you can export or delete your history whenever you want. Billing records of outgoing calls and texts — date, duration and cost — are kept for 12 months because we need them to account for your balance.
What does end-to-end encrypted history change?
When you turn it on, texts and voicemail are encrypted as soon as they arrive and can only be decrypted in your browser, with a key we never see. The trade-off: we cannot search your history on the server, and we cannot forward messages that arrived before you set up forwarding. The settings page explains exactly what is affected before you switch it on.
Does this website track me?
No. Browsing sets no cookies and loads no trackers, analytics or advertising scripts. Signing in sets one session cookie, which only keeps you signed in, and the sign-in form loads Cloudflare Turnstile, an anti-bot check. Our web server logs record the page, the time and your browser type, but not your IP address. Rate limiting uses a salted hash of your IP address, kept for at most one hour.
What happens if authorities request data?
We can only provide what exists, and we designed the service so that very little does: no names, no documents, no email unless you added one, no IP addresses in our web logs, and message history only if you chose to keep it. Each request is assessed individually, and we never provide more than what is strictly required.
Do you sell or share my data?
Never. We do not sell data, show ads or share information with marketers. Carriers necessarily handle the calls and texts they carry for your number, and the services you choose to forward messages to — such as Telegram or your email provider — receive what you send them. Beyond that, your data stays with us and is used only to run the service you pay for.
Business phone system7 answers
What is the business phone system?
A cloud phone system built on the same numbers: local numbers in the markets you serve, call flows with business hours, menus and queues, and as many extensions as your team needs. Everyone can answer from the browser, a SIP app or a desk phone, and texts can be handled together in a shared inbox. It is paid in crypto, with no company documents to provide.
How is the phone system priced?
There is no per-seat fee: extensions are unlimited. You pay for the numbers you rent — with the same 1, 3, 12 or 24-month periods, discounts and one-time $15 activation as personal numbers — and for pay-as-you-go usage such as outgoing calls, texts and long-term call recording storage. Spending caps per account, number and extension keep costs predictable.
What is the call flow simulator?
A way to test your call flow before any customer calls. You pick a day and a time, the caller’s country and the keys they press, and the path through your hours, menus and queues lights up step by step, with the greetings the caller would hear. You can also ask the system to call you, so you hear the result on a real phone.
How do I add team members without email?
Create an invitation link or QR code and share it with your colleague: opening it creates their extension on your phone system, with no email address needed. Each member gets a role — admin, agent or read-only — their own extension and SIP credentials, their own voicemail and, if you wish, limits on international calls and spending.
Can we use desk phones or keep our existing PBX?
Yes. Desk phones from Yealink, Grandstream, Fanvil and Snom are configured automatically from their MAC address. If you already run 3CX, FreePBX, Asterisk or Yeastar, connect it through SIP trunking instead, with credentials or an allowed IP address and TLS and SRTP encryption. A live connection status and a call inspector explain in plain words why a call failed.
Do you provide receipts for accounting?
Yes. Every credited top-up has a printable receipt that you can save as a PDF, with the billing details you want on it — company name, address, reference. We do not store or verify these details: they are there for your bookkeeping. You can also export your call log and your usage per number, extension and country as a CSV file.
How do you protect us against toll fraud?
Premium-rate and high-risk destinations are blocked by default. You can set daily and monthly spending caps for the whole account, a single number or a single extension, and choose the countries each extension is allowed to call. If a device’s credentials ever leak, these limits cap the damage while you change its password.
Rules & legal6 answers
What is not allowed on Numonym?
Spam and bulk messaging, automated campaigns, caller-ID spoofing, fraud and phishing, harassment and threats, illegal content, and abuse of premium-rate numbers. Outgoing texts are for conversations between people, and the caller ID you present must be a number you own or have verified. The full list, with examples, is in our acceptable use policy.
What happens if my account is suspended?
We always tell you why, and you can appeal through a support ticket. Depending on the problem, we may first limit a single feature — outgoing texts, for example — rather than suspend the whole account. If an account is closed, the remaining balance is refunded, except where the law requires us to withhold proceeds of fraud.
Why don’t you ask for identity documents?
Because a phone number should not have to be an identity. Collecting documents creates a database that can leak, be misused or be requested, and it shuts out people who simply want privacy. We keep the network clean in other ways: outgoing texts limited to conversations, high-risk destinations blocked, spending caps and fast action on abuse reports. You remain responsible for using your number lawfully.
How do I report abuse from a Numonym number?
Use the abuse report page: give the number involved, the date and time, and what happened — paste the text of the message if you can. You do not need an account, and the form asks for no personal details. We don’t reply to reports, but every report is reviewed, and confirmed abuse leads to limits or suspension under our acceptable use policy.
How will I know if the terms change?
Each legal page shows the date it was last updated. When we make a significant change to the terms, the privacy policy or the refund policy, we announce it in your account before it takes effect, so you have time to review it. Changes never apply retroactively to rental periods you have already paid for.
Am I responsible for how I use my number?
Yes. You remain responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you and to the people you contact, and with the terms of the services you register with your number. We provide the number and the tools; how you use them is up to you, within our terms of service and our acceptable use policy.
