Verification codes and VoIP numbers

Hushed numbers are internet (VoIP) numbers, and Hushed itself notes that verification texts and short codes may not come through. That is the main reason people look for an alternative: the app works for calls, but a Signal, bank or exchange code may never arrive.

Numonym real mobile numbers sit in carrier mobile ranges and receive texts from short codes. Why the line type matters.

An account without an email address

A Hushed account starts with an email address; a Numonym account doesn’t. You choose a password, get a random 16-digit account number and add a passkey or an authenticator app — there is no email to leak or reset. How the account works.

More countries, the same number for years

Hushed covers the US, Canada and the UK. Numonym adds the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Mexico and Brazil. Rent any number for 1 to 24 months — up to 30% off on the 24-month vault — and the price stays locked for as long as you renew.

Crypto is the only way to pay

Hushed takes app store payments and cards, and Bitcoin on its website. Numonym only takes crypto — Bitcoin, Monero, USDT (TRC-20), Ethereum or Solana — so no card or app store receipt ever points to your number.

Fair is fair

What Hushed does better

If one of these matters most to you, Hushed is the better pick.

  • Native apps

Hushed has apps for iOS and Android. Numonym has no app of its own: it runs in your browser and in any SIP app.

  • Unlimited local plans

Hushed’s Unlimited plans bundle local talk and text. Numonym prices outgoing calls and texts, shown before you send.

  • Pay by card

If you’d rather pay by card or through an app store, Hushed accepts both. Numonym is crypto only.

Switching

Moving from Hushed to Numonym

Keep the old number until everything points to the new one.

How it works
  1. Get your number

Create an account with a password, top up in crypto and pick a number in any of 12 countries.

  2. Move your logins

Change the phone number on your 2FA and recovery settings while you still receive codes on the old one.

  3. Tell your contacts

Send the new number from the old one, or share a username on apps that support it.

  4. Let the old one go

Once nothing points to it any more, cancel the old line. Your new number stays yours as long as you renew.
